My Training Approach-working with the dog in front

My training philosophy is centered on viewing your dog as a complete individual, not just a list of behaviours to fix. It involves considering all aspects of your dog’s well-being—emotional, physical, and behavioural and tailoring the training to their needs.
Your dog’s behaviour doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s influenced by a range of internal and external factors that are sometimes overlooked. Before we even begin working on specific behaviours, it it super important to consider all aspects:
Diet: Is your dog’s nutrition supporting their health and immune system?
Sleep & Decompression: Are they getting enough rest and downtime?
Physical Exercise: Is their body being exercised in a way that suits their age, breed and needs?
Mental Stimulation: Are they being challenged in healthy, engaging ways?
Breed Fulfillment: Are their instincts and natural drives being acknowledged and satisfied?
Overall Health: Are there underlying medical or physical issues affecting their behaviour?
All of these components contribute to how your dog feels and, in turn, how they behave.

Why This Approach Matters
It wouldn’t be fair—or effective—to try and address unwanted behaviors without making sure your dog’s basic needs are met. For example, asking a stressed, under-exercised, and nutritionally imbalanced dog to stay calm and focused around a big distraction is setting them up to fail.
While reward-based training is a key section of my work, building on your dog's motivation and your relationship first and foremost, I also believe in clear structure and boundaries which can help with communication and aid in finding the best approach for your individual needs and lifestyle. Every dog is different and I am open about working with the dog in front of you, finding what works best for them. I am open to using tools for the benefit of the dog and how they will suit this.
By taking this comprehensive approach, we lay the foundation for successful training. When your dog is balanced in mind and body, they’re much more receptive to learning and behavioural change. My aim is to help you build a happy and confident partnership with your dog.
